12. Project/Activity summary (Titles: objectives, activities, achievements):
Co-operation which had been negotiated from autumn 1996 with research establishments serving the occupational health and safety in the Barents region began in spring 1997 with two joint seminars and the organising of a scientific course. The main areas of co-operation for the participating research establishments from Russia, Sweden, Norway and Finland were defined as:

  • the development of occupational protection in the work place and an occupational health model,
  • work in the cold,
  • development of health monitoring,
  • Barents newsletters of occupational health and safety,
  • networking.

Co-operation will take place on the one hand on the basis of contracts between individual institutes and within the framework of a co-ordinating discussion which will take place annually and were all institutes will be present. A working group has been appointed for each main area of co-operation, consisting of representatives of various institutes which in practice will ensure the implementation of co-operation. The co-operation between the research establishments will be linked to the co-operation carried out between the environmetal protection and health authorities of the various countries.
